【岩槻城址公園のスイレン】

さいたま市岩槻区の“岩槻城址公園の菖蒲池”のスイレンが見頃になり多くの人が訪れています。
池に架かる朱色の八つ橋は、今年の3月初めに塗り替えられ、周囲の木々の緑に映えています。
池を訪れる人の多くが橋を渡り、橋の上からの眺めを楽しんでいます。スイレンは赤色のアトラクションと、白色のアルバの2種類です。葉は、池を覆うほど広がっていますが、葉の無いところでは鯉の魚影や亀の姿が見られます。　　　　　　＜埼玉新聞より＞

水位が安定している池などに生息し、地下茎から長い茎を伸ばし水面に葉や花を浮かべる。葉は円形から、広楕円形で、円の中心付近に葉柄が着きその部分に深い切れ込みが入る。根茎から直接伸びる花柄の先端に直径5～10㎝ほどの花を付ける。
