【ハナミズキ】

歌手の一青窈さんのヒット曲でも有名な「ハナミズキ」。北アメリカ原産で、アメリカを代表する花の一つでもあり、バージニア州とノースカロライナ州の州の花にもなっています。
日本人が桜を愛する様に、アメリカ人もハナミズキは最も愛される花の一つであります。
「ハナミズキ前線」が、日本の桜前線のように報道されるそうです。
日本に入ってきたのは、大正時代、ワシントンにソメイヨシノを送った返礼としてやって来ました。
街路樹や、後援受などとして植えられている人気の高い樹木です。庭木としても良く見かけます。一番の見頃は、4月中旬～下旬です。10月頃に向けて赤い実を付け、晩秋には紅葉を楽しませてくれます。
花に見えているのは、実は総苞と言う、葉が変形したものです。中心にあるのは、メシベのように見えますが花序という4㎜ほどの小さな花が集合しているものです。

As Japanese love cherry blossom, Americans are also one of the most loved flowers.
It seems that "Hanamizuki Front Line" is reported like a Japanese cherry blossom front.

It is a popular tree planted as street trees and after-sale support. I often see it as a garden tree. The best time to see is from the middle of April to the end of April. It brings red fruits towards October and leaves autumn leaves in late autumn.
What looks like a flower is actually a whole bract, the leaves are deformed. In the center, it looks like meshes, but it is a collection of small flowers about 4 mm in length called inflorescence.
